This beautifully handcrafted pouch comes from the southern Banjara tribe, a nomadic community known for its bold embroidery and intricate detailing. Decorated with heavy stitch work and the original cowry shells, it speaks of a time when textiles were more than just fabric, they were symbols of identity, protection, and tradition.

I was lucky enough to come across this rare piece, likely over 60 years old. The deep reds and yellows of the embroidery still hold their vibrancy, while the mottled interior hints at a life well traveled. Once used to carry personal treasures or as part of a bride’s dowry, today it stands as a striking collector’s item, a keepsake rich with history, or a distinctive way to store precious things.
